Altshul is an independent, egalitarian minyan in Park Slope, Brooklyn that is guided by halacha and follows the traditional liturgy. We are committed to building community through quality, spirited and spiritual community-led prayer, study, and social action. Altshul aims to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who wish to participate. We invite young people and adults, families of all kinds, and Jews of all levels of observance.
In June of 2005, twenty Brooklynites got together in a local bar to plan for the creation of a spirited egalitarian community-run minyan. Since its first meeting in September of 2005, with the generosity of many supportive individuals and organizations, Altshul has grown into a community which now meets 3 out of 4 weekends a month to pray, learn, and socialize. In October 2010, Altshul celebrated is five year anniversary.
